Tongues was written as a piece for one actor and a percussionist by Sam Shepard and Joe Chaikin, and adapted into an interdisciplinary  ensemble work by Eric Kupers and the Inclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble (IIE.) It involved CSU East Bay students, alumni, faculty, staff, community members and professional performers from Dandelion/Bandelion. Anne-Lise Reusswig was Assistant Director/Choreographer.

The IIE performed the work at CSU East Bay, the American College Theater Festival Regional Conference in Southern California and at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Tongues is being remounted in 2013-14 as a companion piece to the IIE/Bandelion collaboration with Ysaye M. Barnwell, Gather. See bottom of our Home Page for more info.

Video was shot by RAPT Productions and edited by Eric Kupers

Tongues will be revived and updated in 2014, alongside a new work directed by Eric Kupers, Gather. More info on upcoming Tongues – Gather creation and performance is here: Tongues – Gather.
