FALL 2023 INCLUSIVE PERFORMANCE EVENTS @ CSUEB

  • Autumn Moon Festival. Join the Theatre and Dance Department, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, and many campus groups to celebrate the Autumn Moon with multicultural performances, foods, and activities: Wednesday Sept. 27th, 5 – 7pm, Zen Garden by the A&E Building;
  • Wandering in Circles (on purpose). The Wandering Ensemble is a collaboration between Dandelion Dancetheater and the CSUEB Inclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble. This year we are exploring community performance forms that are radically inclusive, accessible, participatory, and adaptable to whoever shows up and whatever is happening in the world at the time. Our first circle will be from 10am – 12pm in the Arts and Education Building Courtyard on Sat. Oct. 7th, as part of Preview Day.   • Altares: Elements Origins, and Practice Workshop. Learn about altar building and practices from a Latinx perspective, in preparation for Dia de los Muertos. Core Building room 301. Wednesday Oct. 4th, 3 – 5pm: www.csueastbay.edu/latinx/
  • Curandismo 101. Learn about cultural healing, cleansing, and other ritual practices in Latinx cultures. Wednesday Oct. 18th, 1:30 – 3:30pm, PE 140 Dance Studio: www.csueastbay.edu/latinx/
  • Theatre of the Oppressed Presentations. Our Theatre of the Oppressed class hosts two presentations of Forum Theatre for the campus community along with a work-in-progress showing of our new collaboration with Project Rebound, Sentenced for Life. We’ll share short plays created by the students and then ask those present to intervene in the action to help bring about more liberatory situations. Dec. 4th and 6th, 4 – 5:40pm in the PE 140 Dance Studio;
  • Inclusive Social Dance with American Dance Wheels. Social dance for people with and without disabilities. These workshops are open to anyone interested in learning more about inclusive partner dancing. No previous experience needed. We will be focusing on Cha-Cha for these three workshops on Nov. 28th, Dec. 5th, and Dec. 12th in the PE 140 Dance Studio: www.americandancewheels.org/

An evening-length experimental performance ritual directed by Eric Kupers and created collaboratively by the Wandering Ensemble, diverse guest artists, and the departments of Theatre & Dance, Music, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Social Work, Kinesiology, Communication, and more. Fridays and Saturdays March 10th, 11th, 17th, & 18th at 7:30, and Sunday March 19th at 2pm at the CSUEB University Theatre, plus April 7th and 8th at 8:30pm, and April 9th at 2pm at Highways Performance Space in Los Angeles.
